Dianne Feinstein Not Running For Re-Election In 2024

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) announced Tuesday she is not running for re-election in 2024.

“I am announcing today I will not run for reelection in 2024 but intend to accomplish as much for California as I can through the end of next year when my term ends,” she said in a tweet.

“Even with a divided Congress, we can still pass bills that will improve lives,” Feinstein added.

At the age of 89, Feinstein is the Senate’s oldest member, and in recent years her colleagues have raised concerns about her mental fitness.

Other Democrats have already announced campaigns for her seat, including Reps. Adam Schiff and Katie Porter. Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) is also widely expected to join the race.

Earlier this month, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) endorsed Schiff for the Senate seat if Feinstein chose not to seek re-election in 2024.

In her statement, Pelosi praised Feinstein as an “iconic” senator with a “remarkable legislative record.” Feinstein “has my whole-hearted support” if she does decide to run for re-election, Pelosi added.
