Dick Van Dyke, 97, Had Car Keys Taken Away By Concerned Wife: Report

Dick Van Dyke, 97, is rumored to have had his car keys taken away by his concerned wife.

The legendary actor was involved in a car accident on March 15 when his vehicle skidded on wet pavement, causing it to crash into a gate in Malibu, California. Van Dyke later told fans that he was recovering from minor injuries.

“The airbags did not deploy, so I just had a face plant right in the steering wheel and it just made me a little dumber,” he told paparazzi Friday, per TMZ. He also said he was doing “pretty good, just sore all over.”

“I’m 97 ― all my friends are dead,” Van Dyke quipped.

Now in the wake of the accident, the actor has reportedly had his car keys taken away by his wife, Arlene Silver, per Radar Online.

“Dick’s gotten to the point where he needs to be taken off the road — for his own safety and the safety of others,” a source told the publication. “Arlene is terrified if she doesn’t take the keys away now, it may be too late.”

The insider said Van Dyke isn’t pleased to have his privileges revoked.

“Dick is chafing at Arlene’s concerns. He’s aware of his age, but he’s determined to maintain his independence,” the source said.
