‘Do What You Need To Do Girl’: Amy Schumer Jokes About Getting Abortions In Teaser For Series Return

Amy Schumer joked about traveling to Colorado to get abortions in a teaser clip for her series, “Inside Amy Schumer,” returning for a fifth season set to premiere on Paramount+ on October 20.

In the clip for a “Colorado ” sketch posted on YouTube Wednesday, the 41-year-old comedian said no one has to justify coming to the state for “services.”

“Whatever kind of experience you are looking for you can find it here in Colorado,” Schumer said in the video. “But we’re more than beautiful wilderness. We also have bustling town centers and access to all the services you might need.”

“All is legal is as a fresh mug of hot cocoa is refreshing,” she added.

Then, a set of actors appeared on the screen playing a couple.

“Visiting here was on our bucket list of things to do before we die,” a woman says. “Which, honestly I might have. If I hadn’t able to visit Colorado,” apparently referring to the ability to get an abortion in the state.

“Not that you need some big dramatic reason to come to Colorado,” Schumer continued. “No one should have to justify a trip to Colorado, maybe you just want to do with your own body what you want to do with your own body.”

At one point, an actress is seen in what appears to be a doctor’s waiting room talking about how her “employer actually paid for my trip to Colorado, they covered travel and time off. I mean, I did have to get HR involved in my personal life, which is obviously not ideal, and they didn’t cover childcare while I was out of town, but still I’m grateful for access to Colorado.”

Near the end of the teaser, the “Trainwreck” star referenced going to websites that promote help for those getting abortions. A message on one of the websites read, “We get people to Abortion care, whatever it takes.”

Schumer never specifically said her bit is about the U.S. Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. However, it is clear that is what motivated the sketch. Schumer claimed abortions aren’t available in some states that border Colorado, including Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. However, each state has wide-ranging abortion laws, and her claim isn’t entirely accurate. The state breakdown has been previously reported.
