The third “Guardians of the Galaxy” film continued to hold the top spot on its second weekend out, crushing box office earnings for the last Marvel film and soaring past the $500 million mark globally.

The Chris Pratt-led “Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3” film grossed $62 million as of Sunday’s numbers and crossed the $200 million mark domestically, making it the best second weekend of any sequel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Hollywood Reporter reported.

Globally “GOTGVol3” did just as surprising when it raked in another $91 million from 52 markets and $58.4 million from China, bringing the total two-weekend tally at the worldwide box office to $530.9 million globally.

Pratt recently posted a message of praise to “Guardians of the Galaxy” fans after the final film in the franchise hit number one.

Pratt’s success follows another film of his, “The Super Marios Bros. Movie,” which smashed records at the box office recently, crossing the $1 billion mark worldwide. It earned $490 million in North America and $532 million internationally as of May 1. And as of Sunday’s numbers scored a total of $1.21 billion globally in its sixth weekend out.

The success has made the animated film only the fifth film since the pandemic to hit such a monumental mark, joining the films “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” and “Jurassic World Dominion.”
