Longtime ‘General Hospital’ Actress Jacklyn Zeman Dies At 70

Longtime “General Hospital” actress Jacklyn Zeman has died at the age of 70.

She’s best known for playing the role of Barbara “Bobbie” Spencer on the popular daytime soap opera for more than three decades. The actress got her start on “One Life to Live” from 1976 until 1977, then moved to “General Hospital” from 1977 until 2010. 

Zeman received three Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and one Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for the role. 

“General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini announced Zeman’s death on Twitter Wednesday evening.

“On behalf of our @GeneralHospital family, I am heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved @JackieZeman,” Valentini shared. “Just like her character, the legendary Bobbie Spencer, she was a bright light and true professional that brought so much positive energy with her to work.”

“Jackie will be greatly missed, but her positive spirit will always live on with our cast and crew,” he said. “We send our heartfelt sympathy to her loved ones, friends and family, especially her daughters Cassidy and Lacey.”

The official “General Hospital” Twitter account also paid homage to the actress and her contributions. 

“Jacklyn Zeman has been a beloved member of the ‘General Hospital’ and ABC family since she originated the iconic role of Bobbie Spencer over 45 years ago,” a tweet from the organization said. “She leaves behind a lasting legacy for her Emmy-nominated portrayal of the bad girl turned heroine and will always be remembered for her kind heart and radiant spirit.”

“We are devastated by the news of her passing, and send our deepest condolences to Jackie’s family, friends and loved ones,” a follow-up tweet said.

Besides being a soap star, Zeman appeared in “National Lampoon’s Class Reunion” in 1982 and had a cameo in the spoof comedy “Young Doctors in Love.” She also starred in several made-for-TV movies and performed in off-Broadway productions. 

Zeman was married three times but was single at the time of her death. She is survived by two daughters, Cassidy and Lacey.
