Prince Harry recently opened up about how he started using hallucinogenic drugs like ayahuasca recreationally but said the “psychedelics” are now a “fundamental” part of changing his life.
The Duke of Sussex made the comments on Saturday during an interview with Canadian doctor and author Gabor Maté, Page Six reported.
“It was the cleaning of the windscreen, the removal of life’s filters — these layers of filters — it removed it all for me and brought me a sense of relaxation, relief, comfort, a lightness that I managed to hold back for a period of time,” the duke shared.
“I started doing it recreationally and then started to realize how good it was for me,” the royal added.

“I would say it is one of the fundamental parts of my life that changed me and helped me deal with the traumas and the pains of the past,” the duke continued. “They’re unlocking so much of what we’ve suppressed.”
In the royal’s recent tell-all memoir “Spare,” Prince Harry talked about his other drug use, including experimenting with cocaine and marijuana as a teenager.
Prince Harry wrote that he was first offered cocaine “at someone’s country house.”
“I’d been offered a line, and I’d done a few more since,” he added, calling using it not “much fun.”

The duke said that the drug didn’t “make [him] particularly happy” but admitted he took it because it made “[him] feel different,” which he says was the “main goal.”
The prince also revealed that he tried magic mushrooms at a party held at Courtney Cox’s home.
“My mate and I grabbed several, gobbled them, washed them down with tequila,” Harry wrote after he discovered a box of “black diamond mushroom chocolates.”
Cox responded to the headlines, insisting she wasn’t the one handing them out, Variety noted.
“I’m not saying there were mushrooms!” the “Friends” alum shared. “I definitely wasn’t passing them out.”
